Sunbeam Rolls

I was in Utah visiting my family this past weekend. It's always great to see my parents again, and it's always a blast to hang out with my little siblings. But one of my favorite parts of visiting my parents' home is baking in their kitchen. My mom has every kitchen gadget and food ingredient known to man (glycerin, cream of tartar any kind of nut or chocolatey chip - you name it!). So naturally, baking was an essential part of my visit to Utah.

One of my favorite things to bake are homemade rolls. In high school, I got this recipe from my aunt and slowly but surely perfected it. I'm such a snob now - I totally prefer homemade rolls over store bought or pre-made Rhodes rolls (shocking, I know). If you've ever wanted to try your hand at roll-making, try these. They are pretty straight forward, and always look pretty in the end. And they're a sweeter roll than other recipes, so I think they taste amazing.

These are going to be on my Thanksgiving table. Trust me - you might want to consider adding these to your list of dishes too.

I've added a few pictures to make the step-by-step instructions a little easier.

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water to which 1 Tbls. sugar has been added. Let stand while making dough. Combine milk and butter in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until butter has melted. Add sugar and salt.

Place liquid in a mixing bowl and let cool for a few minutes. Add eggs and beat on medium speed. Slowly add 2 cups of flour and beat together. Add dissolved yeast. Continue adding flour until dough is soft and tacky, but not sticky.

Place dough in greased bowl. Cover and allow to rise until double in bulk (about one hour).

Roll out dough on a floured surface until it doesn't stick to your hands anymore.

Brush entire surface with butter, and cut dough into small triangles (about 2-inch along the circumference) with a pizza cutter.

Roll dough into small butterhorns, and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes (or until golden brown).

Brush top of rolls with melted butter and serve hot.
